Vanessa Lachey reflects on NCIS: Hawai’i cancellation
“Gutted, confused, blindsided,” were the words NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey posted on her Instagram story after the cancellation news of the show transpired, juxtaposed with sentiments of gratitude and confidence for the devoted fan base.
Known for her portrayal of Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant of the Pearl Harbor office, the Filipino American actress recently opened up about the bittersweet emotions following the announcement of the show’s cancellation after three seasons.
Debuting in 2021, the American police procedural television series broke new ground within the franchise, featuring Lachey as its inaugural female team leader.
Returning to Instagram on May 1, Lachey posted a serene video overlooking the ocean—a callback to the show’s pilot scene.

“Forever your Sweet Jane…This was the same spot where I filmed episode 1. I sat here at 2am in June 2021 and stared into the ocean. I asked her to protect me, my family, my crew and our show,” she expressed.
In her reflective caption, she contemplated the transient nature of existence, drawing parallels between life’s ebb and flow and the show’s conclusion.
“Just as the air hits the water & the water hits the land, the waves connect to the shore, some with a huge impact, then… it goes back out. You see… we aren’t meant to be here forever, we are on borrowed time.”
Acknowledging the contributions of the cast and crew, Lachey lamented the absence of a proper farewell, expressing remorse for the abrupt conclusion of their collective journey.
“I wish we had a proper goodbye, I’m sorry we didn’t. I know we ALL are connected deeper than any TV show. I will go to the ends of the earth for my cast & crew! If you come across ANY of them… hire them! You won’t be disappointed. Salt of the earth people,” the actress added.
The series finale of NCIS: Hawai’i, filmed weeks prior, is set to air on Monday, providing viewers with a conclusion to the show.
Co-star Noah Mills, who portrayed Jesse Boone, also shared his sentiments via Instagram, reminiscing about the joyous moments on set and expressing gratitude to the island community of Oahu, where the series was filmed.
“In Hawai’i we don’t say “Good-Bye”, we say “A Hui Hou” it means “until we meet again”. To you all & especially the beloved fans… A Hui Hou,” Lachey concluded.
Lachey – Vanessa Joy Minnillo – was born at Clark Air Base in Angeles City in the Philippines. Her father, Vincent Charles Minnillo, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, while her mother, Helen Ramos Bercero, was born in Manila, Philippines.
