Flores De Mayo, Filipino fiesta bring colors and flavors to Waipahu

Through the partnership of Filipino Jaycees of Honolulu and the Filipino Community Center, the 2024 Flores De Mayo and Filipino fiesta comes to fruition this May.
Thanks to the communities teaming up to bring the colors and flavors of Philippine celebrations to Waipahu, the event is all set for Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The sponsors, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and the Hawai’i Tourism Authority, are turning the Filipino Community Center into a cultural hub of festivities.
Every year, this event draws in a crowd of around 8,000 to 10,000, with over 70 groups of community organizations and merchants participating.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating a Resilient Community,” reflects the community’s collective resilience as they recover from the wildfires in Lahaina in August last year.
What to expect
All visitors, Kamaʻāina included, are set to immerse themselves in cultural traditions that make the Filipino communities dynamic. From cultural performances to mouth-watering eats, this Filipino fiesta in Waipahu is where you need to be this weekend.
Aside from the savory Filipino bites, not to be missed are performances by local talents like Eli-Mac pitching in her live tunes. Also, get ready to witness the Santacruzan procession parading the Filipina beauties in their Filipiniana attires and gowns.

In addition, there will be fun competitions such as adobo cook-offs and, for the audacious, balut eating contest.

Additionally, free parking spots are available at August Ahrens Elementary School, Waipahu High School and Royal Kunia Park and Ride.

A complimentary shuttle service will pick you up at the Filipino Community Center, 94-428 Mokuola St., Waipahu.
