Golden Globes, CBS reach 5-Year broadcast deal
LOS ANGELES – Organizers of the annual Golden Globe Awards announced an agreement with CBS for the award show to be broadcast on the network for the next five years.
This year’s show in January also aired on CBS and averaged just under 10 million viewers, organizers said.
“CBS’ collaboration with the Globes for this year’s broadcast was a big win for both of us and established strong momentum for awards shows in 2024,” George Cheeks, president and CEO of CBS, said in a statement. “The Globes is a one-of a-kind live event that adds another marquee special and valuable promotional platform to CBS’ annual calendar.”
Under the agreement, the show will air on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+. Financial details of the deal were not released.
The Globes had long aired on NBC, but the relationship soured following upheaval within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which presented the awards but came under fire for a historic lack of diversity within its ranks and questions about its ethical standards.
The HFPA originally overhauled its internal operations and membership, but last year the organization dissolved, with all rights to the Golden Globe Awards sold to a partnership of Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries.
“We’re so proud to continue to call CBS our home for the Golden Globes,” Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Penske Media, which owns Dick Clark Productions, said in a statement. “CBS stepped up for the Globes during a very challenging time, and inherently understood its value, while having the foresight, imagination and conviction to bring this iconic show to its many platforms. We’ve long admired CBS’ commitment to some of the greatest cultural live events and partnering for the long-term further cements this show’s legacy and incredible place in history.” (CNS)
