For some, January might be a monotonous and uneventful stretch. Yet, unbeknown to us, a revolution was quietly brewing beneath the surface.

From Niki’s “24” to Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And?” established and rising artists contributed their beats to the eclectic soundscape of the first month. Joining the fray is renowned Filipino-American dancer and choreographer, Brian Puspos, whose new tune adds a unique sound to our playlists.

It may or may not come as a surprise, but beyond his works for idol groups like BTS and P-pop’s BGYO, Puspos is also a singer.

At the start of 2024, he took to Instagram to share that the journey towards his album release had begun: “The road to my album release begins now. We started this vision in 2018, and now the world will see what we’ve been patiently working hard on. My musical journey as an artist has seen ups and downs, but I’ve never felt more confident than now.”

The first single off his upcoming album is an R&B breakup tune titled “Do You,” where he whimsically suggests, “Bad breakup? Send this to your ex lol.”

The track is produced by Filipino-Canadian August Rigo, known for his work with BTS, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, and Seventeen, among others. It is also co-written by both Rigo and Puspos himself.

Through the song, Puspos expresses a sentiment of allowing his ex-partner the freedom to do whatever she wants, while he, in turn, is choosing to detach himself from any associated drama or complications. Essentially, the lyrics convey a message of letting go and moving on from a relationship without getting entangled in unnecessary conflicts.

The Filipino-American dancer, who appeared as a judge and mentor on a P-pop survival show in 2022, had previously released the songs “Murder She Wrote,” “Amnesia,” and “5AM.”

Released independently, “Do You” is now available on various digital streaming platforms, and Puspos teased, “We’re just getting started, so keep streaming and sharing – it goes a long way for ya boy! The official music video and dance video are coming soon!”
