A Filipino-American actress stars in Disney Plus and Hulu’s ‘Goosebumps’ series
R.L. Stine never fails to give us sleepless nights. Now, one of his bestselling books “Goosebumps” is gracing TV screens under Disney+ and Hulu and it features Filipino-American actress and singer, Isa Briones, as Margot.
Are we entering the era of representation even in the ghosts of our childhood? Perhaps if you consider that Goosebumps is now casting two Asian Americans in the series, which first came out in 1995.
The monsters and creepy crawlies are here for sure, but the revamped series is all about the human experience with a dash of high school life thrown in for good measure.

In an interview, Briones—the London-born talent with a Filipino father and European mother—shares the journey of embracing her Filipino-American heritage, paralleling her life story with her character.
“Both of us love the quiet, and we are both observant—and that is important in this series as she keeps everyone around her safe and cautious.”

Beyond Goosebumps
Stepping into the spotlight at the age of three as a model in New York, Briones started acting in stage productions and feature films in 2008 when her family decided to move to Los Angeles.
Winning an Ovation award for her stage excellence in “Next to Normal” in 2018, she was also part of the stage productions “Hamilton” and “Evita,” which is not surprising given that his father Jon Jon Briones happens to be a Miss Saigon actor.

Also known for her role as Soji Asha in the TV series “Star Trek: Picard,” Briones’ cover of “Blue Skies” was also the series finale song and was released as a single in 2020.
Joining her in the spook-fest is fellow Asian actress Ana Yi Puig, Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, and Miles McKenna. Francis Fong-Wa Yip and Lexa Doig will play supporting roles, adding more layers to the diverse lineup.
