Former Fil-Am White House physician joins Miss Universe 2023 panel of judges
Renowned Filipino-American physician Dr. Connie Mariano is set to join the judging panel for the 72nd Miss Universe competition. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place in El Salvador on Nov. 19, 2023.
Dr. Mariano, born in Sangley Point, Philippines, emerged as the first-ever female physician at the White House, where she served former presidents Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Barack Obama.
After nine years at the White House, Dr. Mariano retired as a Rear Admiral in the US Navy, marking her historic achievement as the first Filipino American to hold such a rank.

The 72nd Miss Universe pageant features 85 contestants from around the world, each competing for the title currently held by R’Bonney Gabriel.
The competition will be graced by a distinguished panel of judges, each bringing their expertise to the event. Alongside Dr. Mariano are actor and designer Carson Kressley, fashion model Halima Aden, award-winning musician Mario Bautista, Roku program management director Sweta Patel, Puerto Rican actress Giselle Blondet, entrepreneur and crisis manager Denise White, and social media sensation Avani Gregg.
