Denise Julia, Fil-Am rapper P-Lo to break norms in ‘B.A.D.’
Independent singer-songwriter Denise Julia says “never mind” to all the people judging her as she continues to pursue her dreams and become the artist she wants to be with her debut album.
After going viral on TikTok with “NVMD,” the 21-year old Filipina artist is entering a new era with her latest single, “B.A.D.,” featuring Filipino-American rapper P-Lo, set to release on Oct. 27.
With a fusion of R&B and hip-hop, the single delves deep into themes of sexuality and cultural identity, making it a track that is poised to convey compelling messages in the music industry.
On Oct. 11, she posted a teaser on Instagram, narrating a glimpse of her story growing up wanting to “see an artist who looked like me, with brown skin, a woman of color.”
“I was often teased for my complexion, as the beauty standards in my country leaned towards fairness,” the caption reads. “As I matured, I came to deeply feel the need for real representation, someone a young Filipina can look at and say, “She looks like me; maybe I can be like her one day.”

Born and raised with a Filipino heritage, the “NVMD” hitmaker will be performing an ode to her journey of self-discovery and empowerment—a theme that resonates with many young individuals navigating the complexities of society.
““B.A.D.,” my debut single from my album, is more than a song; it’s an introduction. A glimpse into the dreams of that young girl. It’s about embracing my sexuality, finding strength in it, and proudly owning my color, my country, and my roots,” the post continues.
Additionally, the Fil-Am rapper collaborating with Julia is just dedicated to promoting this message, actively advancing culture in the United States. P-Lo recently launched the “Very Good Food Tour,” blending music and Filipino cuisine in several US cities.
This single is both a musical revelation and a bold statement of the young artist’s unapologetic embrace of her heritage and herself.
