15-year-old Filipino star wins Best Actress in Paris Film Awards
Rising star Krystal Mejes is riding high on her recent victory in the September 2023 edition of the Paris Film Awards.
The 15-year-old Filipino actress was honored with the Best Actress award for her outstanding performance in the short film “Matapang” directed by Léa-Jade Horlier.
Mejes takes on the role of Mary Ann, a young girl fighting for survival in the slums of Angeles City, Pampanga. She plays the daughter of a prostitute portrayed by Alessandra de Rossi. Desperate to change her circumstances, she prepares herself for a journey to find her father.

In an Instagram post, Mejes wrote, “We did it everyone!! We just won best actress in paris film festival awards!! I’m beyond grateful for this blessing. Maraming maraming salamat po sa lahat ng tiwala, pagmamahal at supporta na binigay nyo po sa’kin. I still can’t believe it!! It feels so surreal and too good to be true. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this success.”
She went on to express her deep gratitude to her family, friends, supporters, and the entire “Matapang” production team. She also gave a special shoutout to Horlier saying, “Our hard work has paid off. This is all possible because of you, my ate. Thank you.”
