Max’s fried chicken coming to roost in Arlington, Florida?
Max’s Restaurant, known in the Philippines as “The House That Fried Chicken Built” may be opening a franchise in College Park, the former Town & Country Shopping Center in Arlington, Florida.
The Jacksonville Record reports that a site plan for College Park development shows a Max’s Restaurant franchise in a 4,537 square feet property, in a location with easy access to highways and a population of at least 50,000 Filipinos within a 10-mile radius.
The plan shows a Max’s Restaurant projected at 907 University Blvd., the former Town & Country Shopping Center in Arlington, near Legacy Ministries.
Max’s began in 1945 when Maximo Gimenez, a Stanford–educated teacher, befriended the American occupation GIs stationed at Quezon City, later prompting him to start a café serving drinks, chicken and steaks, according to the restaurant’s website.
“Maximo’s niece, Ruby, who managed the kitchen, created a special recipe for chicken that became an instant favorite for the GIs. Soon, the Filipino public heard about the delicious chicken – tender, juicy and crispy – and they came too. Max’s Restaurant was born.”
Max’s Restaurant serves “real, authentic Philippine cuisine at over 180 locations in the Philippines, 4 in the Middle East, and 21 in North America.”
Aside from fried chicken, menu items include calamari, heart of palm egg rolls, boneless marinated milkfish, pork or beef tamarind soup, crispy pork knuckle and belly, leche flan and mango and coconut jelly in cream.
