It’s probably a Filipino thing to put condiments and sauces on our food. These additions enhance the dining experience and reflect the rich culinary traditions of the country. And thanks to brands like Fila Manila, preparing these flavorful options comes without breaking a sweat.

Now this “bestselling Filipino sauce brand in the US” is expanding its reach across the United States. Aside from its online store, Fila Manila is now nationally distributed in Whole Foods Market, select Target and Stop & Shop stores, and all Meijer stores this September.

“Our retail partners see the growing popularity of Filipino flavors and recognize the representation gap of Philippine-positioned products. Filipino Americans represent the largest Asian American community in many states and interest in our cuisine is at an all-time high, yet there is almost zero representation in most stores,” says founder Jake Deleon.

A sustainable shift

Launched in 2020, these products have been available in bottles. However, the brand recently made a significant shift in its packaging, adopting a more sustainable approach across its entire product line.

From bottling essential Filipino sauces like adobo, kaldereta, and kare-kare in glass containers, Fila Manila has now shifted to eco-friendly alternatives like lightweight pouches.

“Innovation has always been ingrained in the company’s identity, and a crucial aspect of that is our commitment to create with a sustainability-oriented mindset,” the company says.

In fact, this approach doesn’t just cover their packaging. At the beginning of the year, their Banana Ketchup condiment achieved an official Upcycled Certification, incorporating over 50 percent upcycled banana puree.

Furthermore, the complete lineup of Fila Manila products (including the pouch cooking sauces, Banana Ketchup condiment, and Ube Purple Yam Spread) is free from artificial colors or flavors, naturally gluten-free, and suitable for vegans.

On his LinkedIn account, Deleon also shares that they will be presenting their “revamped lineup of award-winning innovations that showcase Filipino American cuisine, the fastest-growing global flavor in the US,” at Expo East 2023 in Philadelphia at Booth 1048.
