Christmas is coming early to Canada: Jose Mari Chan to hold concert tour in November

In the days and weeks leading up to Sept. 1, aka the official start of the Christmas season in the Philippines (or “ber” months as we like to call it), perpetually online Pinoys will likely see the familiar figure of Jose Mari Chan already making the rounds on meme pages.

Bearing variations of “malapit na… kakanta na ulit ako” or “Warm up pa lang…” the memes serve as a reminder that it’s almost our favorite time of the year, when we’ll hear his voice on the airwaves again and our streets will once again be lined with lights and parols.

For our kababayans abroad, “malapit na” now rings even more true, because if you’re missing the Pinoy taste of Christmas, Chan and iconic OPM vocal group The Company will be bringing our beloved sounds of Christmas over to Canada in November for a concert tour.

The tour, entitled “Christmas in Our Hearts (Ilang Tulog Pa Ba? Pasko Na!),” will kick off on Nov. 10 in Vancouver, and will be making stops in Edmonton on Nov. 11, Calgary on Nov. 12, Winnipeg on Nov. 17, and finally Toronto on Nov. 19.

The concert tour will feature the iconic hits of Chan and The Company, which include the tour’s titular “Christmas in Our Hearts” and “Ilang Tulog Pa Ba? Pasko Na!”

But while we all wait for November, we can take time to brush up on our old favorites, from Chan’s “A Perfect Christmas,” “Please Be Careful with My Heart,” and “Beautiful Girl” to The Company’s “Muntik na Kitang Minahal” and “Pakisabi na Lang.”
