‘Third World Romance’ is making stops in the US, Canada, and Guam
“Winner sa deals, winner sa presyo, sa Wynn Grocery, ikaw ang panalo!” (Winner in deals, winner in prices, in Wynn Grocery, you’re the winner!)
In “Third World Romance,” this line gets recited out loud by the employees of Wynn Grocery, and they include cashier Britney (Charlie Dizon) and bagger Alvin (Carlo Aquino). The trailer starts with their rather challenging meet-cute: Two of them are struggling to obtain pandemic aid, implying that their lives during the global shutdown isn’t really a far cry from their poor lives before it.
Directed by Dwein Ruedas Baltazar (“Oda Sa Wala,” “Gusto Kita With All My Hypothalamus”), this story about two blue-collar workers navigating life through hardships in an unfair world premiered in the Philippines on Aug. 16. And if you’ve been waiting for international screenings of Black Sheep’s newest offering—and want a romance film with sharp commentary—you’re in luck.
As announced on the socials of Black Sheep and Anima Studios, “Third World Romance” has started its international screenings on Aug. 25, which includes stops in the US, Canada, and Guam. Its US leg covers movie houses in California and the East Coast. It’s also gracing cinemas like Century Orleans 18 in Las Vegas, Cinemark in Texas, plus Kapolei 16 and Pearlridge West Theaters in Hawaii.
