Two Filipina American entrepreneurs who run a combination bakery and plant shop in the Woodstock neighborhood of Portland, Oregon were able to launch their business with help from a GoFundMe drive.

Daphne’s Botanicals, a houseplants and gifts shop and Shop Halo Halo, a Filipino bakery that was once as a pop-up, share space in Botanical Bakeshop, which opened mid-July after raising more than $35,000 via crowdfunding.

According to Portland Monthly, Shop Halo Halo is “one of just two brick-and-mortar Filipino bakeries in Portland, and the only one on the east side. It’s part of a growing wave of Filipino food launches in Portland, including food cart Baon Kainan, former pop-up bar Sunrice, coffee shop Kalesa, and Beaverton’s Magna Kubo.”
