In cold northern Michigan, a food truck serves heartwarming Filipino fusion fare
Missing the comforting flavors of home while living your American dream? This food truck in Northern Michigan will transport you back to the Philippines—with an American twist.
Say hello to Fil-Am Fusion, the brainchild of Matt and Angie Morgan where Filipino dishes collide with American faves to create unique dishes that’ll make you say, “Sarap!”
“Cooking has always been a passion for me, but being able to share that here in northern Michigan, you know, there’s not a lot of Filipinos here. It’s too cold, they say. But we have a community here. Being able to share our food to this area and to Americans and seeing how much they love it and how accepted it is… It really, really, really, it’s overwhelming and it makes me happy,” said Angie, a De La Salle University graduate who moved to the US in 2011, to 9and10News.

‘Fiesta’ the Fil-Am Fusion way
The menu features a successful amalgamation of the couple’s backgrounds—from gourmet burgers and Filipino classics to specials like coconut adobo ribs (“simmered in coconut milk, soy, vinegar, and spices,” they write on Facebook).
Their chicken inasal (Filipino local chicken BBQ) meanwhile promises a burst of flavors, thanks to the tangy citrus, zesty vinegar, achiote, and fragrant lemongrass. The food at Fil-Am Fusion resonates so well with its Fil-Am customers that some of them go to great lengths for a taste—including one Filipina who drove two hours on her birthday.
Whether you’re curious about Filipino fusion or just homesick for Filipino flavors, what are you waiting for?
