Teen shot in the head in Hawaii miraculously showing signs of recovery
HONOLULU— The 17-year-old girl who was shot in the head last week is miraculously showing signs of recovery in the hospital, her family said.
The family of Richianna DeGuzman excitedly shared the news that she started opening her eyes and moving her fingers. Doctors reportedly expect more progress ahead.
“I just got word that she is blinking her eyes there is movement in her eyes and there’s movement in her fingers,” Susan DeGuzman, Richianna’s mother, told KHON2.
“So now she has a strong flex. She’s bringing her hand up not outwards, now it’s upwards which is a good thing, plus her fingers,” said her mother.

The family was previously told that Richianna could be brain-dead, but they no longer believe that’s the case.
Richianna’s shooting was the second incident of gun violence in West Oahu involving teens in recent months. A suspect in his 20s or 30s is still at large.
