Filipino, mom-in-law killed in Alberta car crash

LETHBRIDGE, Alberta — A Filipino man and his mother-in-law were killed in a deadly vehicle crash near Olds, Alberta last Sunday, June 10. His wife and two children are recovering from serious injuries.

The crash happened at around 9 a.m. on Highway 2 near the Highway 27 overpass, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Leo Palencia and family were on their way home from a visit to Edmonton when their vehicle “left the road surface and came to rest against the overpass,” according to Global News.

His wife, Ellen, and her mother, Del Plantinos, were both killed. Ellen Palencia and her two children suffered serious injuries.

Close family friends said Ellen’s mother had just traveled to Canada from the Philippines to visit the family.

A GoFundMehas been set up in order to raise money for the family’s medical and funeral expenses.
