Filipino-boosted New Jersey church to hold parish-wide carnival
A Catholic church in Jersey City, New Jersey that has a large Filipino congregation will hold its first parish-wide carnival in years to mark its 125th anniversary.
St. Aloysius Church, founded in 1897, will hold its carnival on June 16-18 around the restored Lincoln Park fountain.
It will feature ethnic foods, rides, booth games, hourly raffles, music and live entertainment, notably She Said No, one of Jersey City’s top rock bands, and a Super 50/50 drawing as finale.

St. Aloysius’ congregation is 70 percent Filipino, 20 percent Hispanic and 10 percent Vietnamese, Korean, West Indian, African, Caribbean, and Caucasian, Luz Ramirez, , the church’s first Filipino parish trustee, told NJ.com. “It’s a home to the immigrants – especially first and second generations.”
