City in Virginia ramps up hiring of teachers from PH
Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) is ramping up a standing international plan to fill some critical teaching vacancies.
At Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, the number of Filipino teachers grew larger in the last two months with the addition of 23 teachers recruited from the Philippines.
The teachers are already highly qualified, skilled, and certified to fill critical shortage areas such as mathematics and special education, Virginia Beach Public Schools HR specialists told 13News Now.

A recent recruit, Ma. Elena Teresa Domingo, taught for 13 years in the Philippines, as well as nine years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Arlene Mante had taught at high school and collegiate levels for 13 years before coming to Virginia beach as early as 2003, 13News Now reported.
Mante co-teaches math with Domingo, who may start solo teaching in the fall. Teaming up with seasoned teachers is part of the support given to new recruits to help them navigate cultural and professional learning curves.
