EDMONTON, Alberta — A teenager charged in the fatal 2015 Mac’s convenience store shootings of two workers, including Ricky Cenabre, a Filipino, will be on trial this summer starting July 4. Meanwhile, the trial of one of the teen’s two alleged accomplices began June 5.
The robberies took place at two Mac’s convenience stores in the early hours of Dec. 18, 2015. Karanpal Singh Bhangu and Ricky Cenabre, 41, a Filipino store clerk, were killed minutes apart while working alone on a night shift at two different Mac’s convenience stores in south Edmonton. Both were robbed and beaten before being shot dead, according to Globalnews.ca.
The teen if convicted faces the maximum 10-year prison term under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, but only six of that would be served in custody.
Also charged with first-degree murder are Colton Steinhauer, 28, and Laylin Delorme, 26, who both have long criminal histories. Delorme is now being tried by a jury for the death of Bangru.
Graphic surveillance video was shown to the jury Thursday, the third day of Delorme’s trial. The footage shows three masked men entering the store. One suspect appears to fire a handgun, and Mac’s employee Karanpal Singh Bhangu, falls to the floor.
Cenabre was shot and killed at a second Mac’s location. He had been working in Canada for 5 years, sending money to his family in the Philippines.
