Despite judges’ praises, Fil-Canadian Tyson Venegas cut from ‘American Idol’
Despite being lauded by judges on American Idol on Monday night, Filipino Canadian Tyson Venegas,17, from Port Moody, B.C., failed to make it to the top eight.
He was among the lowest vote getters after 23 million viewers cast their choices.
Venegas, who sang Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved, thanked his fans on Facebook, saying it was an honor to be on American Idol. He reached the top ten, before being cut Monday night,

He had impressed judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan last month and nabbed the season’s first Platinum Ticket for his cover of Billy Joel and Tony Bennett’s New York State of Mind.
Venegas was the last Canadian contender on the show. A 20-year-old compatriot, Emma Busse, from Burnaby, B.C., was cut by the judges last month when the list was pared down to 20.
