The Announcement

According to Variety, on Tuesday, founder and CEO of Illumination Chris Meledandri revealed that he and Dreamworks studios are looking to return the Shrek franchise for the fifth time.

“It’s not that dissimilar to the process that we went through with ‘Mario,’ where you look at what the core elements are that audiences have loved, and you do your very best to honor those core elements,” said Meledandri.

The original voice actors, Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy, will most likely return for “Shrek 5.” Meledandri said negotiations were ongoing, although they had yet to reach any concrete deals.

These actors helped bring the characters to life and made them some of the most beloved animated characters ever. Imagining anyone else playing the roles might be different for the fans.
