Elon Musk Announces Plans to Expand Twitter’s Character Limit from 280 to 10,000!
Elon Musk recently announced plans to increase Twitter’s character limit from 280 to 10,000. The information came while he was responding to a user’s query.
He said the company would soon extend “long-form tweets” to 10,000 characters. Musk acquired Twitter for a whopping amount of 44 billion dollars and has since made several significant changes to the application.
A good example was Twitter verification, initially reserved for top government officials, celebrities, and the like to help curb impersonation and help people with identification.

That didn’t go well with most people, while some cheered the decision which has come to stay. Any account can have the blue tick, symbolizing a verified account, but for a monthly fee of 8 dollars.
What’s Likely to Change on the Twitter App?
For Twitter users, another change to the app wouldn’t be far away. Musk said that users would soon be able to post much longer tweets on the platform.
It happened a month after Twitter announced that Twitter Blue subscribers could post long tweets of up to 4,000 characters on the platform, but the feature is only available to those in the US.
A Twitter user with the account @ThePrimeagen asked Musk, “The dev community and I were considering if you could add code blocks to tweets?”
The Twitter chief replied: “As an attachment? How many chars? We are extending long-form tweets to 10k soon.”

This wouldn’t be the first time such is happening as it was formerly doubled from 140 to 280 in 2017.
Even if this happens, we are still determining how soon and if it would only be for those with the blue subscription.
Users were left guessing since Mr. Musk needed to clarify those eligible for the new feature. Some users believed it to be an excellent idea, while others shared different views.
For them, it could be another way for the company to get more blue subscribers since Mr. Musk has suggested increasing the number of blue tick subscribers in the past.
“Without significant subscription revenue, there’s a good chance Twitter won’t survive the upcoming economic downturn.” Mr. Musk told Twitter staff soon after his takeover, as reported by Forbes.
Twitter Blue and the Next Steps for Twitter
Twitter Blue has yet to be as successful as Elon Musk hoped. It also faced challenges after Mr. Musk relaxed the platform’s moderation guidelines.
By doing so, he reinstated several banned accounts, including that of former US President Donald Trump. Some Twitter users didn’t like the idea and threatened to exit the platform as a way of protest.
The main question here would be what is next for Twitter since the chances are high that Musk would implement this. What other features would Twitter be rolling out for its users in a bid to remain profitable?
Time will surely tell, but from the look of things, there is more to come as Musk aims to improve the social media platform.
