Flight Passenger’s Screen Goes Viral After Choosing Movie Over Super Bowl

/ 09:13 AM February 16, 2023

Airline passengers seemingly experienced some turbulence after witnessing a fellow passenger watching a movie instead of following the Super Bowl.

Most people expressed strong emotions regarding the incident, saying that the passenger was a “menace to society” and “should be jailed.”

Tweets regarding the incident recently went viral as they coincided with the NFL season. Consequently, it sparked a back-and-forth among online viewers.

How did people react to the passenger?

A plane passenger shared a photo of his flight via Twitter on the 13th of February. It showed people watching the Super Bowl in the aircraft, save for one passenger.

The post focused on an unknown passenger’s screen that projected a movie instead of the major football game.

It would seem that the person was viewing the film Hitch, starring Will Smith and Kevin James. The photo was dim, so we could not determine whether the passenger was male or female.

The original poster attached the following caption:

“The 1 dude watching Hitch on this plane should be jailed. A menace to society.”

In response, social media users berated the movie watcher for not showing interest in the game. Believe it or not, the tweet received more than three million views.

One user commented, “Where is an air marshall when you need one?” Also, another person protested, “The audacity.”

Sports blog site Barstool Sports had strong words for the passenger, labeling him or her as the “biggest try-hard on the planet.”

Its recent article said, “I’d imagine this person had seen the 2005 film at some point before. This guy wanted to send a message.”

“He wants everyone on that plane to know he views himself as a superior being because he would never possibly engage in activity as lowly as watching the Super Bowl.”

On the other hand, some people expressed their support for the movie watcher. One user tweeted, “Let Hutch guy live!”

Another responded to the post by stating, “How dare anyone, not like your favorite hobby,”

Somebody else said, “Perhaps they aren’t into sports… I love sports… but who am I to judge someone who doesn’t watch it.”

Why do Americans love the Super Bowl?

Think of the United States, and you would likely think of football. You may have seen famous movies that reference the sport with specific scenes or characters.

The National Football League (NFL) is a major part of American tradition, so people meticulously prepare for the occasion.

Some people even prepare special dishes specifically for the season. More importantly, it brings people together to enjoy a single event.

Like other sports, fans focus on the finals. This year’s Super Bowl had the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles squaring off for the championship.

The Kansas City Chiefs won, but many people were not happy with the results. Many people believed that the referee made the wrong call, allowing the Chiefs to win.

A Chiefs player was about to catch a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes when an Eagles receiver seemingly tapped him on the back.

In response, the referee gave a holding call on the receiver, prompting a first down. That means the offense must advance the ball ten yards.

That bought enough time for the Chiefs to kick a field goal and win the game. As a result, many people at the stadium and on the internet protested the “NFL is rigged.”

Many people are still fuming about how the game went. You can imagine why a lot of people in the US would raise their eyebrows about somebody not watching the game!
