LOS ANGELES – There were no tickets sold with all six numbers in tonight’s drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, pushing the estimated jackpot for Saturday’s drawing to $950 million, the 13th-largest lottery jackpot in US history.
The numbers drawn Wednesday were 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and the Powerball number was 25. The estimated jackpot was $861 million, also the 13th largest in US history and sixth-largest in the history of the Powerball game, which began in 1992.
The have been seven larger jackpots for the Mega Millions game, which began in 1996 as The Big Game and was given the new name Mega Millions in 2002.
Six tickets were sold with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.
One of the two sold in Virginia and the ones sold in Mississippi and Ohio are all worth $2 million because the players utilized the Power Play option, where for an additional $1 per play, a ticket with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, is worth $2 million.
The other ticket with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, sold in Virginia and the ones sold in Arizona and New York are each worth $1 million.
The drawing was the 38th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold, May 31, when a ticket worth $207 million was sold at a convenience store in Arleta.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in 292.2 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. (CNS)
