Via and her son, Paolo, survived the fire before the fire but were rushed to the hospital and were in stable condition.

She and her son now need a place to stay as their house has become uninhabitable, according to a Vancouver Sun report.

City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan sent her “deepest condolences to the friends and families across the North Shore who are grieving this tragic loss.”

Buchanan said, “Bob was an active member of our community and dedicated many years to public service.”

A family friend has set up a GoFundMe page  for Via and her Paolo.
