The Unlikely Love Story: ‘Marrying My High School Bully’

/ 09:21 AM February 06, 2023

It’s not every day the person you choose to spend forever with turns out to be the one who made life miserable in high school. But you know life has twists, and sometimes your worst enemy might become your best friend or spouse, as Lauren Enslow found out.

Lauren Enslow shocked quite a few when revelations arise that Lucas Olsen, whom she married, harassed her at the age of 15 when she was in high school.

The unlikely couple first met at a party in October 2016 and began communicating on social media. Enslow eventually turned Olsen down because she wasn’t interested in a relationship then.

Enslow started high school the following year and discovered that she and Olsen were in the same friend group. She described it as an uncomfortable situation, and understandably so.

Enslow recalls Olsen and his peers taunting her, calling her “Linda” about the character from the sitcom “Bob’s Burgers,” and would even go as far as making videos of her in the school hallway and posting them on social media.

His actions pretty repulsed Enslow, “At this point, I hated him. I wanted nothing to do with him,” she said.

Surprisingly, things turned around when Enslow was involved in a life-threatening car crash later in November with her mother, Jessica Enslow, 48, and her elder sister Alyssa Kimber, 28.

The car had crashed into the rear end of another vehicle, and incidentally, Olsen had witnessed the entire thing.

Enslow recalled, “We were in a parking lot and saw him. My sister thought rolling down the window and calling out his name was funny. Seconds later, we were involved in a car crash. No one was seriously injured, but the cars were messed up.”

Call that an act of God or the universe at play, but whatever it was, it completely changed the dynamic between the two. Olsen showed concern by reaching out to her after she uploaded a photo of the wreckage to her social media.

She said, “It showed he cared. It helped me like him again.” The pair quickly bonded and subsequently developed feelings for each other.

They went on a double date after a friend of Olsen convinced her. It was a great decision, and the gang had a lot of fun. This must have fueled emotions, and the pair began to date early in February 2018.

Things must have gone pretty well between the two because just five months later, Olsen proposed to Enslow on top of a mountain, according to the New York Post.

She recalled, “He took me atop a mountain to see some fireworks. He then got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. I had been suspicious but still very shocked when it happened.”

Three months later, in October, they married on the same date they had met six years ago. The ceremony was quite intimate, with just members of their immediate family present; how about that for romance?

Lauren Enslow, a content creator, acknowledged that she has forgiven Olsen for his misdeeds and still taunts him about it.

On the other hand, Olsen admitted that he found the whole thing “silly.” “When you are that young, you think such things are funny. My friends and I thought it was funny,” he added.

He admitted that the joke may have gone too far and blamed it on peer pressure. He explained that he never actually thought that she resembled the sitcom character.

“I teased her because, at the moment, it was a mix because I liked her, and my friends were doing it as well. Peer pressure, in a way.”

Olsen “loves that it finally happened” because there were “always feelings.”

“Ending up with your high school sweetheart is the most beautiful thing I could ever dream of. Lauren Enslow is awesome, and I couldn’t ask for a better person to experience the rest of my life with. I want a family with Enslow; I’m excited to build a house and watch the rest of our dreams come true,” he added.
