Taylor Lautner Recalls Kanye West’s 2009 VMAs Interruption with Ex Taylor Swift
Twilight actor Taylor Lautner recalls the infamous moment of Kanye West and Taylor Swift during the 2009 VMA. He shared the unexpected incident on his new podcast with his wife, Tay Lautner.
It’s been over a decade, but this incident hasn’t died yet. MTV awarded Taylor Swift the Best Female Music Video of the Year when problematic Kanye West went onstage and crashed her acceptance speech.
Taylor Lautner says he regrets not stopping Kanye West when he interrupted Taylor Swift, who he was dating at the time:
“I'm just assuming this whole thing was a rehearsed skit… the second she turned around I saw her face and I was like, oh. Probably should've said something.” pic.twitter.com/IvOIhMEb18

West said to her, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!”
Taylor Lautner reflected on this event on the first episode of his podcast, The Squeeze. He clearly remembered how West hopped on the stage.
He was dating Swift then and said he “was unaware that the Kanye thing was not a skit.” Taylor recalled, “I presented the award to her.”
Taylor continued, “I took five steps back and was standing five feet behind her. And, yeah, in the middle of her giving her ‘thank you’ speech, Kanye jumps on the stage.”

The actor revealed he thought Kanye’s interruption was just a skit. “I can barely hear it. I can’t see them. I’m just assuming that this whole thing was a practiced and rehearsed skit because why else would Kanye West be jumping up on the stage, interrupting Taylor Swift?”
He even laughed about the stage interruption, unaware of what was happening. But when Taylor Swift turned around, he saw her reaction. “I was like, ‘Oh,” he said. “No, that … wasn’t good.”
According to PEOPLE, reports said that Swift cried backstage after the incident. But she had to stay composed to perform the song that won her the award.

Meanwhile, Kanye West didn’t change his ways until now. With his back-to-back controversies, from his anti-Semitic comments to wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt, it’s not surprising why many of his endorsements pulled out.
Furthermore, Taylor and Tay, a former nurse, aim to tackle the significance of mental health, which is their podcast’s primary goal. The couple introduced this new venture on Instagram last week.
The new couple, Mr. And Mrs. Lautner, tied the knot on Nov.11. They celebrated their first Christmas together as newlyweds and are currently happy with their married life.
