M&M’s to release first all-female character packages
Mars, M&M’s creator, will launch an “all-female” candy package for a limited time. The release of M&M girl characters aims to honor women who are “flipping the status quo.” Mars announced the girl-power wrappers on Thursday.
The candy company confirmed it would exclusively feature M&M’s female characters. It will display the brown, the green, and the new purple M&M.
M&M’s released a new female character in September called Purple. It is mainly looking to redefine its representation of women with its M&M girl characters on the limited edition packages. This homage to “Flipping the Status Quo” symbolizes M&M’s acceptance and inclusivity by featuring its “three leading ladies.”

M&M’s featuring the beloved M&M girl characters. This limited-run edition of M&M’s package only contains the chocolate-coated candies in the colors that represent their corresponding character – Green, Brown, and Purple.
According to PR Newswire via Fox7, M&M’s is launching packages featuring the female M&M’s upside-down. It symbolizes how women are flipping the script on how they define success. This limited edition will be available in milk chocolate, peanut, and peanut butter varieties.
Purple M&M
The candy company’s latest move introduces a purple M&M girl character who represents body positivity and self-acceptance. This is the latest in a series of marketing moves M&M’s has made to promote inclusivity.
In 2022, Mars announced that it plans to change its mascots “reflect the more dynamic, progressive world that we live in.” The company also said that the “refreshed M&M’S brand will include a more modern take on the looks of our beloved characters.”
Moreover, in 2017, Mars confirmed that it would be “spending a billion dollars through the next few years to reduce its carbon footprint.” Gabrielle Wesley, Mars Wrigley North America’s chief marketing officer, explained this modern female-forward marketing strategy.
She said, “Women all over the world are flipping how they define success and happiness while challenging the status quo. So we’re thrilled to be able to recognize and celebrate them. And who better to help us on that mission than our own powerhouse spokescandies Green, Brown and Purple?”
Furthermore, M&M’s recently announced its plan to support two nonprofits that empower women in the music industry with a donation of up to $500,000. M&M fans can contribute to this fantastic cause by purchasing the limited edition M&M girl character packs.
For every one of these packages bought, M&M’s will also donate $1 towards the two selected organizations, “She Is The Music” and “We Are Moving the Needle.”
In addition, Mars revealed that they will donate $300,000 to other female-supporting nonprofits to “flip the status quo.” M&M’s stated that these M&Ms would be available this month.
