Fil-Am student stops ‘Jeopardy’ champ’s winning streak but fails to set his own
A Filipino American graduate student stopped the winning streak of “Jeopardy” game show champion, beat challengers on the second day, but lost on his third day on the program.
Lloyd Sy, 28, of Rockford, Illinois, reaped a total of $53,578 in winnings.
Sy had beaten 13-time super winner Ray LaLonde, who had earned $354,300, onTuesday’s show. Sy won again on Wednesday before being defeated on Thursday’s episode.
The son of Larry and Esther Sy, Lloyd is about to earn his PhD in English literature from the University of Virginia. He was a magna cum laude graduate in English and computer science at Brown University and was a 2012 graduate of Auburn High School.
Sy credits his “Jeopardy” wins to general knowledge, practicing with a ballpoint pen for buzzer speed and having been on Auburn High school’s Quiz Bowl team.
