Fil-Canadian runs for 24 hours to raise funds for homeless shelter
A Filipino Canadian running enthusiast ran for 24 hours on Dec. 26 to raise funds for a homeless shelter.
Junel Malapad of Winnipeg ran round-the-clock on Boxing Day for the seventh year and raised $15,000 for the Siloam Mission Homeless Shelter. Over the years, Malapad has raised $95,000 for the Mission.
Malapad ran a 3.3. kilometer loop from 12 a.m. Dec. 26 to 12 a.m. on the 27th. “I’m going to run about 100 to 160 km, someplace in between there,” he was quoted by CBC News before his run.
Some friends accompanied him for a while to show their support and to boost his morale
Malapad said he started running in 2015 to reduce his cholesterol count and get away from consumerism.
But hearing about the death in winter of a homeless person made him decide to do it for the homeless shelter.
