El Segundo, California to celebrate global holidays including Filipino Pasko

Last year’s Christmas Tree Lighting in El Segundo, California. This year’s free, family-friendly event will have vendors of West African, Mexican, Indian and Japanese foods, crafts, and activities such as dreidel painting, diya lamp-making, Filipino Parol lantern making.

For the first time, El Segundo, in Southern California will celebrate “Joy Around the World Holiday Festival” along with its traditional “Christmas Tree Lighting” on Saturday, Dec. 3, showcasing different cultures’ traditional holidays, including Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Pasko/Nochebuena and Ōmisoka.

The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee and Recreation, Parks and Library announced that from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at City Hall Plaza, there will be live music, dance, poetry and other performances.

The free, family-friendly event will have vendors of West African, Mexican, Indian and Japanese foods, crafts, and activities such as dreidel painting, diya lamp-making, Filipino Parol lantern making, gingerbread cookie decorating, train rides and Santa Claus visits for kids.

There will be a Christmas tree lighting, holiday light show spectacular, visit from Santa Claus, children’s trackless train ride and craft-making stations.

The event takes place on the 300 block of Main Street and at City Hall Plaza (350 Main Street). Entrance is free to the public.
