‘Days of Our Lives’ actor John Aniston dies at 89

John Aniston, the charismatic Greek-born star of the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” died at 89. He portrayed the villain Victor Kiriakis for more than 30 years.

His daughter Jennifer Aniston announced the news on Friday. She posted this tribute on Instagram Monday: 

“You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew. I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace — and without pain.”

“And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now. I’ll love you till the end of time.”

After her heartfelt tribute, several close friends from the industry sent their love and support to Jennifer Aniston. 

Ex-husband Justin Theroux and Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow sent her a heart emoji. Also, she received a condolence message from Jennifer Lopez, “sending you love and strength.”

Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon commented, “Sending you all my angels. I love you, Sister,” to sympathize with Jennifer Aniston following her father’s passing.

Lilly Collins, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, and other Hollywood personalities sent their love and support to Aniston.

The social media handle for the Days of Our Lives series also posted a heartwarming tribute video featuring John Aniston’s time on the acclaimed show.

It came with a statement, “Our hearts are broken over the loss of our beloved family member John Aniston. We love you, John. Your legend will live on.”

Daytime Emmys paid tribute by saying, “The entire @TheEmmys community mourns the passing of legend John Aniston, our 2022 #DaytimeEmmys Lifetime Achievement honoree and a true #EmmyIcon in every respect.”

Kristian Alfonso played the character Hope in the Days of Our Lives series. She shared a picture of herself and the late John Aniston with the following message:

“Rest in Peace John. It was an Honor knowing you & working with you. Thank you for always being so kind & for always making me laugh. XOXO You will be greatly missed.” 

The actor who played Victor’s grandson Brady on the show shared an Instagram post. Eric Martsolf said, “I will miss this gentle giant so much. He reminded me that ‘work’ can be ‘play’… Thank you, Grandpa Vic, for allowing me to play with you over the years.”

John Aniston recently earned the Daytime Emmys Lifetime Achievement Award for his long-standing role in Days of Our Lives.

He did not attend the awards ceremony, but his daughter Jennifer Aniston attended virtually on the awards stage to celebrate her father’s career.

She said, “This is truly a special moment for me. It’s a chance to recognize the lifelong achievements of a great and well-respected actor, who also happens to be my dad.”
