Honolulu PH consulate staffer murdered by estranged husband
An employee of the Philippine Consulate in Honolulu was murdered by her estranged husband on Thursday, Oct. 6 in an apartment in Ala Moana area.
Police said Rogelio Canilao, 81, confessed to killing Teresita Canilao, 76. The Philippine Consulate in Honolulu confirmed that she was a “longtime local hire.”
Rogelio Canilao is in police custody facing second degree murder charges.
State Sen. Bennette Misalucha, who said she had known “Tessie” for a long time, stated: “My understanding is they’ve been separated for many years,” KITV News reported.
The local Filipino community and Philippine diplomatic posts worldwide were reportedly left in shock by the news.
Police officers found the fatally injured Teresita Canilao at her apartment on Sheridan Street. Her husband’s motive and the circumstances leading to the murder have not yet been disclosed.
The Philippine consulate is working with police in investigating the crime.
