Fil-Am coach shot, wounded after breaking up brawl near high school
A Filipino American high school football coach was shot and wounded while trying to break up a fight among students in Vallejo, California, 30 miles northeast of San Francisco, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 13.
According to the Vallejo Police Department, Vallejo High School football trainer Joseph Pastrana broke up a fight among several students and unidentified males in front of the school. Some of the persons involved fled in a car while firing shots back at the group of students, hitting and wounding Pastrana.
Pastrana was treated at a hospital and is out of danger, according to the Vallejo Times-Herald. Police and school officials praised his bravery in trying to keep the peace.
The high school will have more site safety officers on campus along with ”a Vallejo Police Department presence,” officials said.
