Steph Curry reveals true feelings on Kevin Durant trade

/ 08:52 AM September 12, 2022

If there were no proof of the trade rumors with Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors, the team’s star player Steph Curry would have ended these trade talks. Have they considered a blockbuster trade to bring their superstar player Durant back to their team?

Steph Curry is quick to answer, “Hell, yeah!’ He would’ve welcomed back his former comrade to the Bay Area with open arms. Durant ended his contract with the Warriors in 2019 to move to Brooklyn Nets.

Kevin Durant sealed the deal with Nets last month. This is following his trade request and demands. He wanted the Warriors’ owner to dismiss the general manager and head coach, Steve Nash. These are his conditions for going back to the team.

Curry was quick to defend his former teammate and said he was “misunderstood.” In one of his five interviews with Matt Sullivan of Rolling Stone, he insisted that he was “never hesitant” about Durant’s possible comeback. On a positive note, he even expressed his love for his fellow future Hall of Famer.

Moreover, in Rolling Stone’s October cover story, he sat down in a series of interviews. His interviews circulated a variety of topics such as philanthropy, mental health, public policy, athlete activism, politics, and the hoops.

In addition, Curry also revealed that three days after Durant’s deadline for the Nets deal that “There was a conversation internally amongst us about if he was available, would you? Every team has those conversations, and, in our situation, they will call me and ask me. How do you feel about it?”

The Warriors’ superstar answered, “I was never hesitant. The idea of playing with KD and knowing who he is as a person, from our history in those three years, I think KD’s a really good dude. I think he is misunderstood. I think he has had certain things happen in his life that hurt his ability to trust people around him. In the sense of making him feel safe at all times. So all of those things, I understand, having played with him and gotten to know him. I love that dude.”

Reports circulated about the Warriors’ interest in Durant’s return before he finally signed with Nets again. However, it’s still uncertain if the team has offered a trade deal to the Nets in exchange for Durant. Back then, Joe Lacob hinted his opposition to breaking up the Warriors’ foundation as rumors go his team’s interest in Durant first circulated.

Moreover, there was even early speculation that the Warriors’ Big Three might refuse Durant’s return. Curry had no doubts if he had returned, as he had confirmed in this interview that he’s open to playing with Durant again. But considering Durant’s experience with the Nets, it’s a question if he’ll ever be comfortable playing with the Warriors again.

Meanwhile, in one of the interviews, Curry also talked about his brother and Nets shooting guard Seth. When asked about a possible Durant re-partnering, he said, “For him to even be entertaining, the thought of having KD back on the team kind of speaks to his character.”

On a side note, Curry is still as ubiquitous in winning the next season’s championship. However, as an athletic man who is broadening his horizons, his focus is not only on his games. He is also a businessman, humanitarian, political leader, and activist.
