Taylor Swift fans are buzzing about hidden theories in ‘Midnights’ album
As soon as Taylor Swift left her fans screaming, crying, and in a bit of a frenzy over her announcement of ‘Midnights’ on Sunday, Swifties just had to do their homework. Winning the top awards at the MTV VMA night, she dropped the bombshell during her acceptance speech.
The 32-year-old pop superstar announced her new album’s name, Midnights. Swift also announced its release on October 21. In addition, she bagged the “Video of the Year” accolade for her album “All Too Well: The Short Film.”
She announced that night, “I had sort of made up my mind that if you’re going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out Oct.21.”

She later then explained in an Instagram post how the album will include “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” As expected with Taylor Swift’s traditional “Easter eggs”, fans started to devour for hidden clues on her album.
Taylor was known for giving hidden hints about her upcoming projects. And she loves that there’s something for her fans to discover. She said in “The Tonight Show” interview last year, “It’s sort of a tradition that we started a very long time ago. I think the first time that I started dropping sort of cryptic clues in my music was when I was 14 or 15, putting together my first album.”
Taylor Swifts’ Easter eggs
She also confessed that sometimes she plans her ‘Easter eggs’ almost three years before announcing her new projects. She also said that she gets excited reading the Swifties’ theories. “I’ve trained them to be that way. I love that they like the cryptic hint-dropping. Because as long as they like it, I’ll keep doing it. It’s fun. It feels mischievous and playful.”
By going through her social media posts, other music, and answers to interviews, Swifties always come up with different incredible but realistic theories.

Starting with Taylor’s artwork cover on Spotify, fans were quick to notice that it has changed. Following Midnights’ announcement, her Spotify cover was changed to an animation of a ticking clock heading to midnight. There are also incepts of lyrics from her previous single about being unable to sleep and midnight. This is an obvious implication of an upcoming album and what’s it about.
Another theory has a history that goes way back to 2009. When Taylor was still 19 yrs. old, she also made an announcement during the MTV VMA award. Also during her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video Award, Kanye West went on stage and interrupted her speech. He told the crowd that Beyonce is more deserving to win the award. This is when the Swift-West feud started.

Many noticed that her decision to announce the big news during the same awards night is part of her plan. Considering that 13 is her favorite number, which is also the number of years since the Kanye West incident in 2009.

One fan tweeted, “THE MOST OBVIOUS EASTER EGG EVER” along with a snapshot of Taylor wearing the same silver outfit in her “Better than Revenge” music video and the VMA Awards night on Sunday. Another fan wrote, “13 years later. This is Taylor Swift’s revenge dress.”
On top of all this, going back to the Kanye West drama, Midnights’ release was also on Kim Kardashian’s 42nd birthday. While it’s uncertain if it’s intentional, fans are quick to speculate.
With a lot of fans developing a lot of other theories, clear but hidden messages are the basis of all their speculations. Taylor being Taylor, it’s expected that she wants her fans to go on a hunt for hidden clues.

Meanwhile, as fans were busy digging in for hidden messages, Taylor has also just really made another exciting announcement. She will release a vinyl version of Midnights. She posted on Instagram, “August may have slipped away but September brings 3 new special edition covers.” Taylor Swift surely knows how to give her fans lots of surprises.
