Do the Brooklyn Nets want to trade Kyrie Irving?

/ 09:37 AM August 22, 2022

During the NBA offseason, teams will want to only be dealing with the right kind of noise. The period should be the perfect time for organizations to plan and prepare for the upcoming campaign. However, the Brooklyn Nets have had to deal with its fair share of negative noise throughout the summer.

The organization was brushed aside by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs, and this appears to have led to Kevin Durant requesting a trade that has turned out to be rather public. However, if they were not bad enough, it seems that there is still plenty of talk regarding Kyrie Irving and his status in New York.

In this article, we will take a look at what the current picture involving the point guard is and whether the Nets want to trade him away from the team, while also looking at what could potentially be on the horizon for the team in the upcoming campaign.

Will the Brooklyn Nets be trading Kyrie Irving?

As mentioned, there was a lot of noise at the beginning of the offseason regarding the future of Kyrie Irving, however, it does seem as though that talk has started to calm down a little and that trade may not be something that is likely to happen.

Of course, as we know, the Nets have been unwilling to negotiate a new long-term deal with the point guard this summer, and while he has not formally requested a trade, many have felt that the organization’s unwillingness could be an indicator of what could potentially happen; especially as he only has one year left on his present contract.

However, it would appear as though everyone is currently happy with the current situation. And this has evolved over the last few months. It has been reported that Irving is “in a good place with the Nets and comfortable entering the 2022-23 season.”

Admittedly, earlier reports suggested that he held an interest in joining the Los Angeles Lakers appear to have been nothing more than a rumor; one that some have alleged only happened because some will be keen to try and ignite a narrative that would see Irving and LeBron James back together.

The point guard, though, has been vocal in his desire to sign a long-term contract with the Nets in the past, having done so on multiple occasions, although he is yet to get the security that he wants. But with training camps starting in September, it does appear that he will still be a Nets player.

Could Kevin Durant remain with the Nets?

He, though, does not appear to be the only man that may be staying at the franchise for the time being, despite there being a clear intention to get away from Brooklyn as soon as possible.

As mentioned briefly above, KD is one player that has made his desires rather public knowledge, however with training camps creeping up rather quickly, it would seem that the All-Star could be set to remain at the franchise.

Indeed, no NBA team has been able to work a deal for the player that suits the Nets. And with more than a full month has passed, there will be some fans that will feel that the team will be keeping him on the roster for a little while longer. Especially as the trade market is currently broken.

However, there will be some that will believe that trade can still happen, with those fans able to place wagers on where they feel the All-Star could end up.

For instance, Caesars NY Sportsbook will be offering the best odds for the soon-to-be former BN player as they have already listed a number of different prices that punters can look to take advantage of. Those that are confident in seeing a move can look to make their bets whenever they want and enjoy a seamless experience.

Others, though, may be using the site to wager on the Nets’ chances of being the 2023 NBA Champions. And with the franchise being provided odds of +1800 at the current time of writing, it had us thinking…

What can we expect of the Brooklyn Nets next season?

Naturally, with all of the noise to have been present this offseason regarding the possibility of trades and the futures of star players. Add to it the disappointment of the Boston Celtics sweeping away in the first round of the playoffs. There will be a lot of attention on the Brooklyn Nets.

The organization literally went all-in last season. On paper, they looked to have the quality to be able to bring the championship to New York. However, nothing went the team’s way and they have serious struggles at various stages of the season.

Nonetheless, the 2022/23 NBA Championship will provide them with a new opportunity and one that the franchise will need to take with both hands. But, their chance of being in contention will likely depend on one thing. Whether they have one or both of the aforementioned stars available to them.

While there has been no real movement regarding Irving’s future in Brooklyn, a trade for KD is still yet to materialize. There is not a team that is able to – or willing – to give the Nets what they want for their All-Star.

If either of those individuals were to depart, then you would have to consider what the franchise was able to pick up for them. This is to be able to determine their chances. However, when you take into account the fact that they are +1800 at the moment with both men still on the roster, it does not appear many are backing the team currently.

Final Thoughts

So, will we see Irving and/or Durant leave the Brooklyn Nets this summer? We know that KD wants to leave, while it seems Irving is actually rather happy where he is at the moment. Thus perhaps cooling any speculation about a possible trade for the time being. However, as we know, nothing ever appears to be final in the NBA!
