Taylor Swift’s spokesperson justifies her massive carbon emission footprints

/ 10:32 AM August 02, 2022

Beating the records out of Drake, Kylie Jenner, and Oprah Winfrey, singer superstar Taylor Swift hits the top spot on the list of celebrity CO2 polluters worldwide. People called out the celebrity singer for declining to take responsibility for the issue.

Analytics and marketing agency Yard released a list of top celebrities with the worst private jet carbon emissions. The list revealed that Swift is the number one producer of carbon emissions from her private flights. For the record, she has taken 170 flights since January. In computation, these trips amounted to almost 800 tons of carbon. This is approximately 1,184 times more than an average person’s total emission for one year.

Through flight tracking maps, Yard could compute that Swift has used 22,923 minutes of air time. Surprisingly, each flight is as short as 80 minutes. The record of her shortest flight in 2022 is a 36-minute flight from Missouri to Nashville.

It didn’t take long for Taylor Swift’s representatives to respond to the issue. In their defense, they refuse to accept the accountability that the singer was the only one responsible for the carbon emissions appearing on her private jet’s record.

One of the singer’s spokespeople told Buzzfeed, “Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.” While Taylor’s side was trying to ease the rage by releasing a statement, it made things worse.

After they released the statement, readers and followers expressed their dismay in the comment section. They are quick to point out that whether Swift was present on the flight is not the point.

Reader’s Dismay

One commenter said, “I don’t care who’s on the plane. It shouldn’t be making all those flights and producing all those emissions. If you own it, you’re responsible for it. They should all be flying commercial (and flying less).”

For some readers, it would have turned out better if they discussed Swift’s next steps in reducing the emission. Instead of just shifting the blame to other users. Some Twitter users were even quick to analyze that Taylor Swift and her team were trying to instill a “humanitarian spin” by shifting the focus away from her liability. Instead, pointing the attention toward her generosity.

Recently, fellow club jet setters Kylie Jenner and Drake were called out on Twitter for being “climate criminals.” Although Kylie’s name didn’t appear on the top 10 list, her beau Travis Scott was ranked in 10th place. While the other Kardashians, like Kim, were ranked on 7th place in the carbon emission contributor. Although Kardashian and Scott were on the list, Swift’s total record outdone their combined emissions.

Moreover, just last week, Drake was also slammed for taking three flights in June. All of these flights were under 20 minutes each on his $185 million private jet. Although these short trips seemed harmless, they resulted in 15 tons of carbon emissions. This is according to the Twitter account CelebJets.

Taylor Swift, on the other hand, seems unstoppable when it comes to her jet usage. Despite the uproar, Swift is still using her private jet typically. In just the last three days, she has added 25 tons to her record of annual carbon emissions.
