Chris Rock finally speaks about the Will Smith Oscars slap

/ 08:28 AM July 28, 2022

Comedian Chris Rock finally broke his silence about the Oscar slapping incident as he hadn’t commented much after the event. While almost everyone knew about the famous Will Smith slap, Chris Rock has been mostly silent and didn’t give much of his reactions before. But now, he even cracked jokes about the incident on his “Only Headliners Allowed” tour with Kevin Hart.

The famous Oscar slap happened during Chris Rock’s speech. Wherein Will Smith went to the stage and slapped Rock in the face for a joke directed at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

After the onstage attack, Will Smith won the best actor award for his lead role in “King Richard.” He apologized for his action during his acceptance speech. Although a few days after, Smith resigned from the Academy. In a Fox News interview, he said that he had “betrayed the trust of the Academy.”

Smith said, “I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct.”

Earlier this year, Chris Rock said he was still “processing” the slapping incident and wasn’t ready to dig deep into it yet. But now, he seemed to have moved on that he can even joke about it.

Rock said on his set for his “Only Headliners Allowed” tour, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”

Later in the set, he said, “I’m not a victim. Yeah, that shit hurt, motherf*******. But I took that shit off and went to work the next day.”

Chris Rock and his initial reactions

Rock added, “I don’t go to the hospital for a paper cut,” as the HuffPost reported. His fellow comedian-actor Kevin Hart even gave him a gift. Hart said it was his “Greatest of All Time” respect for the comedy icon. He gave Chris Rock a goat. And the goat’s name? It’s Will Smith.

Fresh from his onstage assault back then, Rock slightly touched the subject in his show in Boston. He said before that he didn’t “have a bunch of shit to say about that.” He also added that he was “still processing what happened.” Moreover, he said he would someday joke about it when he was ready.

On another show where he mentioned the Will Smith incident, he said, “Was that Will Smith?”. He cracked the joke while placing his arm around Chappelle. The latter also gave a surprise appearance on Chris Rock’s show in New York. Chappelle also joked about Chris Rock’s onstage assault.

Furthermore, Rock’s “Only Headliners Allowed” is a five-show tour with Kevin Hart. It was held at Madison Square Garden.

Chris Rock, 48, joined his friends on stage. Hart called it “the best moment of my career.” The crowd welcomed Chappelle with loud applause and left the stage with a Radiohead song, “Karma Police.”
