Rough weather halts Filipino long-distance swimmer’s Lake Michigan crossing
Filipino long-distance swimmer, marathoner and environmental lawyer Ingemar Macarine had to abort his targeted 6-mile swim across Lake Michigan Sunday, July 24, due to rough weather.
Dubbed as “Pinoy Aquaman,” the Surigao-born clean ocean water advocate and four companions ended their swim at 3 miles, 2 hours and 57 minutes after they encountered huge swells driven by strong winds.
Macarine, 46, swam from Waukegan Municipal Beach in Illinois with Filipino American multi-sports enthusiasts Rey Letada, Nick Regorgo, Cynthia Garcia and Kylee Marie Guiriba.
In August 2017, Macarine’s second attempt to cross the English Channel, from the UK to France, was also aborted due to rough weather conditions.
