Filipina pulled over by cops flashes ‘White Privilege Card’ instead of license; probe launched
Police officials in Anchorage, Alaska are investigating an incident involving a Filipina who showed a “White Privilege Card” instead of a driver’s license to police officers who pulled her over.
The social media post caused concerns about racial equality in Alaska’s largest city, according to an Associated Press report.
In a social media post Mimi Israelah, who described herself as Filipina, said she was pulled over for weaving at 3:43 a.m. after arriving on an early-morning flight from California for Trump’s rally Saturday, July 9 backing local Republican candidates.
When she could not find her driver’s license, she showed “Officer Bo” her novelty White Privilege Card and asked if that was okay, she wrote on Facebook.
The novelty card reads: “White Privilege Card Trumps Everything.” She said the officer called his partner and they both laughed.
A video posted on Twitter by Israelah with an officer standing by her car window has been taken down.
It was not clear if the officers involved actually issued a citation to Israelah. But someone in the Facebook comments section asked if they gave Isrealah a ticket and she answered, “Nope.”
An Anchorage police spokesperson told AP that an investigation of the officers’ conduct has been launched.
