Self-taught PH-born painter to hold solo show in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Self-taught Pampanga-born painter Fatima Ronquillo will have a solo exhibition, Borderlands, at Meyer Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico from Aug. 26 to Sept. 8.
Borderlands opens on Friday, Aug. 26 with an Artist Reception from 5-7p.m. Paintings will be available for pre-sale in the weeks leading up to the opening. (To be notified of releases, contact Meyer Gallery.)
Ronquillo presents a new body of work inspired by liminal landscapes, dueling emotions, and other representations of the “in between,” according to the exhibition announcement. ”Her own sense of place and personal identity inform her new paintings, giving the show an intimate feel.”
The self-taught painter combines old master techniques with a playful modern sensibility to create a world where art history meets with imagined characters from literature, theatre and opera.
Born in Pampanga, Philippines in 1976, Ronquillo emigrated as a child to the United States in 1987 where her family settled in San Antonio, Texas.
She began exhibiting her work from the age of 15 and is now widely collected in the United States and internationally. Her work has appeared in numerous art publications including American Arts Quarterly, Southwest Art and American Art Collector as well as in the fashion magazines The Cut / New York Magazine,Vogue Gioiello, Marie Claire and A Magazine Curated By Alessandro Michele. She lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
