Ex-Benguet Gov. Raul Molintas dies in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Former Governor of Benguet Raul “Rocky” Mencio Molintas, 60, and died while on vacation in this city on Feb. 14 after suffering a stroke.

Molintas was taken to California Pacific Medical Center where he expired. He leaves behind his wife, Purificacion Suanding Molintas, Department of Tourism director based in San Francisco, and two children.

Molintas was governor of Benguet for three terms from 1995 to 2004 after serving as Provincial Board Member from 1988 to 1992. He was a labor lawyer for militant unions as well as an avid golfer and a chess enthusiast. He helped put the St. Louis University chess team on the chess map in the Philippines.

Molintas was known for his emphasis on providing quality health care and the rehabilitation of Benguet Provincial Hospital for the residents of his province.
