Filipina’s art exhibit returns to Fort St. John, BC gallery
An art exhibit, “Ex Situ, is back at Peace Gallery North in Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada until June 8 to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month.
“Ex Situ” denotes thriving outside one’s place of origin, which many Filipino immigrants in Canada have done. Curating the exhibit is artist Ovvian Castrillo-Hill a sculptor and designer, with works in Manila, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Canada.
“For many Filipinos around the world, it’s the most significant month of celebrating being Filipino,” told Alaska Highway News, explaining that June 12 is Philippine Independence Day.
The show had opened in 2019 but was interrupted by the pandemic. Castrillo-Hill is also working on a documentary of the same title, a look into the lives and experiences of Filipinos living in the Peace Region.
Peace Gallery North is on 10015 100 Avenue, Fort St. John, British Columbia.
