LOS ANGELES – Every year, dozens of parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles host Simbang Gabi, a Filipino tradition celebrating the nine days leading up to Christmas with the Mass, novenas, and food.

This year, Simbang Gabi begins on Dec. 15 in a Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The Mass will commemorate two landmark events for Filipino Catholics in the archdiocese — the 500th anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines and the 250th jubilee of the Catholic faith in Los Angeles.

This year’s Simbang Gabi theme, “Gifted to Share the Light of Christ,” highlights these important gifts for Filipino Catholics.
