5 fun cold weather activities
When the seasons change, people have to adapt to shifts in the weather, time and temperatures. These changes often include swapping your clothing styles, prepping your home, prepping gardens and pets for the chilling temperatures and more. But just because the days are colder and a little gloomier, it doesn’t mean you need to follow suit as well. Here are some fun activities you can smile about even during this frosty holiday time:
Coordinate stylish winter outfits
It’s time to take those warm sweaters and scarves out of the closet while putting away your tank tops and beach hats. Take out your dark-toned articles and layered outfits and plan fancy-looking or laid-back clothes combos you can stay warm and look great in. You usually cannot wear these outfits until this late in the year and it can be fun to mix and match clothes that are both fashionable and functional.
Collect and try out seasonal recipes
The best way to savor the cold season is to make dishes that will warm you right up! Do a little research and find easy-to-do recipes you, your friends and family can try. Whether it’s a tummy tingling soup or a delicious batch of cookies you may or may not want to share with Santa, making a warm feast is definitely a fun activity to try during your vacation time.
Cold air out, warmth in
Even if you’re a homebody, take the time to bundle up and take a little stroll out in the chilly weather; the crisp air and the tingle of the cold will definitely refresh and awaken your senses. Take a look in your area and see what local happenings, sales and events are going around you. Once you’ve had enough, retreat back home and let the warmth from the heater wash over you with a nap-inducing coziness you can indulge in under a blanket.
Have a pajama day
Speaking of blankets and napping, spend a day of your vacation time just rolling in bed and enjoying yourself. Sometimes a pajama day just happens without warning; but if you want a game plan for staying cooped up in your nice, warm room all day, it pays to prep everything you need the day before to ensure maximum laziness. Do things with minimal effort, like eating cereal for breakfast instead of cooking a meal, or wearing pajamas that are comfy enough to lounge in all day. Sometimes just staying indoors and avoiding the freezing winds and wet snow outside is just what a hard worker needs (be sure to inform your family and friends so you don’t get dragged away from your lazy day).
Make an indoor and outdoor list
Since the holidays are only limited to a few months, it’s best to make a list of things you want to do, both for inside and outside the house. If you want to enjoy the snowy wonderland that covers the ground outside, list a few fun activities like snowman-making or snowball fights. More of an indoor person? Why not arrange a game night with the people you love or finish that novel/music composition/DIY been putting off all year. Try to avoid listing things you’re sure you’ll put off or which seem like they will take a long time to do. It’s all about finishing as many fun things as you can before the year ends and you’ll be feeling accomplished.
Keeping yourself busy for the holidays can be a great mood booster; but giving yourself a well-deserved break after a jam-packed year is essential too. No matter how you spend the holidays, always remember it’s a time to escape the cycle of stress and boredom you’ve built up through the year. Live a little and don’t worry about the details!
