Gerry’s to open its first Honolulu restaurant

HONOLULU — Filipino barbecue chain Gerry’s Restaurant & Bar, is opening its first Hawaii restaurant at a retail center on King Street here.

Gerry’s Restaurant & Bar has filed a building permit with the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Planning and Permitting for a space at 1125 N. King St. in Kalihi, according to a report by Pacific Business News.

Gerry’s, whose menu includes grilled items such as calamari, chicken, beef ribs, pork barbecue and tuna steak, has restaurants in the Philippines, Singapore, Qatar and the United States, including a couple in California.

Founded in Quezon City in 1997, Gerry’s expanded to California in 2006 and five years later it opened in Singapore.

Gerry’s joins Filipino eateries Jollibee and Red Ribbon Bakeshop, which have recently expanded to Hawaii. Red Ribbon and Jollibee have locations in Kalihi, which has a high population of Filipinos.
