Fil-Am Cultural Day, FREE at Asian Art Museum
SAN FRANCISCO — In celebration of Filipino American cultural heritage, admission at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, will be FREE on Sunday, October 1, courtesy of Target.
There will be live performances throughout the day by Parangal Dance Company as well as hands-on family activities for all ages. The main performance is at 1 p.m.
Traditions from the Sulu Archipelago, the Lumad people and the rural Philippines will be highlighted.
The museum’s acclaimed new exhibition of historic and contemporary works, Philippine Art: Collecting Art, Collecting Memories, will be on view. The San Francisco Chronicle calls it “a reminder of the overlapping borders of culture” that works “to correct the historical record” and reflect the “Filipino background of half a million Bay Area residents.”
