‘Show Your SALNs Movement’ challenges politicians

/ 09:11 AM March 25, 2021

A citizens’ alliance has launched the “Show Your SALNs Movement” with the aim of strengthening the country’s the Philippines’ governance standards,

In collaboration with citizens and organizations, Global Filipino Nation(GFN) will request for a copy of the SALNs and SALs (Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Net Worth, and Statement of Assets and Liabilities) for the past two years (2019-2020) from “presidentiables” (2022 elections) and incumbent Senators.

GFN is a non-partisan global organization of Filipinos in 30 countries including the Philippines.

The parallel request to a candidate who is not currently a public official would cover the balance sheets for the same period. GFN’s dashboard on its website will be uploading the SALNs and SALs of Presidentiables and Senators.

The request for SALNs and SALs is the core of the movement. It is a faithful compliance with Republic Act (RA) 3019 and R.A. 6713 which promotes a culture of integrity, ethics, accountability and transparency in public office – traits which are ideal among public officials.

Sec. 7 of R.A. 3019 specifies the submission of the SAL; the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees”. It is a simple bell-weather snapshot of how trustworthy and honest politicians are as they conduct themselves in office.

Global Filipino Nation’s website at https://globalfilipinonation.com  will be uploading the SALNs and SALs of those running for high government offices such as senatorial candidates to presidentiables.

Additionally, the dashboard will monitor public statements and development about the utility and compliance with the submission of SALNs and SALs. The general public can readily gain access to the GFN website and view the uploaded SALNs, SALs and developments relating to them.

A dozen students of Political Science from the University of San Francisco working under the guidance of Prof. Joaquin Gonzalez III PhD, Professor of Government and Politics, have volunteered their time and expertise to set up the two modules and gather data for uploading to the GFN website, to help attain the goal of the Movement.

Leading the way of “SHOW YOUR SALNs MOVEMENT” are Sen. Rene Saguisag, Senior Adviser Emeritus; Prof. Joaquin Gonzalez III, PhD, Professor of Government and Politics, University of San Francisco and Golden Gate University; Jose Luis (Nonoy) L. Yulo, Jr., President, Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands; Benny Gonzalez, SALN Forensic Expert; Rolando Estabillo, President and Publisher of the Manila Standard, Chairman,Philippine Press Institute; Gen.
