FilVetREP’s ‘Duty to Country – A Broken Promise’ to stream Nov. 6

/ 08:59 AM November 02, 2020

A one-of-a-kind online interactive education program on US-Philippine relations since 1898 will be launched Nov. 3 by the Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project (FilVetREP).

The program also reveals “the 122-year history of colonial dominance, discriminatory acts and social injustice that pervades to this day,” FilVetRep’s press release states.

The experience of Filipino veterans of WWII, of being dishonored and unrecognized for their wartime service due to the Rescission Act passed by Congress in 1946 has not been told fully. This law was an American tragedy imposed on some 260,000 men and women who were ordered into active duty in July 1941, and served under Gen Douglas MacArthur, commander of US Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE). The law was never repealed.
